Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions homeowners ask us most.

What size air conditioner does my home need?

The correct capacity is based on a cooling-load calculation that considers square footage, insulation, windows, sun exposure, air leakage, occupancy and ductwork. Replacing an old unit with the same capacity is not always the right answer.

What do SEER ratings mean?

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a standardized measure used to compare cooling efficiency. Higher-rated equipment can use less energy under test conditions, but actual consumption depends on climate, installation, home efficiency, controls and usage.

Can I replace only the outdoor unit?

Sometimes, but the outdoor unit, indoor coil, furnace or air handler, controls and refrigerant requirements must be compatible. A matched system is important for capacity, efficiency, reliability and manufacturer warranty.

Will a new air conditioner fix hot rooms?

It may help, but uneven temperatures can also result from duct design, closed or restricted registers, insulation, air leakage, solar gain or an incorrectly balanced system. Your contractor should investigate the cause rather than assuming equipment replacement will solve it.

How long does installation take?

Timing depends on equipment availability, access, electrical or duct modifications and whether the indoor coil also needs replacement. Your contractor should confirm the expected schedule after inspecting the home.
